Medical Leave for the Adopting Family

The U.S. government passed a law which mandates that certain employers give up to 12 work-weeks of unpaid leave for a child adoption placement.

The Family and Medical Leave Act

FMLA  requires that an employer must grant an eligible employee up to a total of 12 work-weeks of unpaid leave during any 12-month period for the birth of a child  or for a child adoption.  For the details of this Act please visit the The Family and Medical Leave Act on the ChildAdoptionLaws website.  You may also want to visit the Department of Labor website article "The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 -- Public Law 103-3".
