It is very important to have the child you are adopting be evaluated by a licensed physician familiar with conditions and diseases common in the country where you are adopting your child.

International adoption medical clinics are good resources for international medical and health information, especially if your adopted child has an ailment that is uncommon, not easily diagnosed or difficult to treat.  International adoption medical clinics also provide advice on pre-adoption evaluations, immunizations and post adoption medical examinations.  This is a directory of clinics and doctors in the US and Canada specializing in international adoption medicine.

In every case, make sure to check with you local doctor and pediatrician with the referral information.   If you take custody of a child in a state other than the one in which you reside, check with the local hospitals for a referral to a pediatrician.
